Learn Chinese

Mandarin Chinese, the official language of China and Taiwan, is the most widely spoken language in the world with more than 1.3 billion people. English comes second. Mandarin Chinese is also one of the official languages of Singapore and one of the working languages of the United Nations.

At first, Mandarin Chinese could look like a very difficult language to master, as it does not use an alphabet but instead uses what are called the Chinese characters. Each character contains a meaning and a sound (pinyin) associated with a tone (there are 4 tones in Mandarin Chinese, plus a neutral one). Contrary to an alphabet, it is almost impossible to pronounce a character if you have not learned it beforehand.

But if you take the plunge and start learning this beautiful ancient language, you will notice that Chinese is not that hard. There is no conjugation so no past or future tense, no gender for nouns, etc.

Learning Mandarin Chinese would be a big plus, especially if you are planning to travel in China as a lot of local Chinese people do not speak English.

So let’s get started!!!
